Islam & Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him) — What You Need to Know

Islam does not reject Jesus — it honors him as a great prophet. Discover what the Quran says and why millions of Christians have studied Islam.

If you love Jesus, you may be closer to Islam than you think.

Islam Honors Jesus — By Name, More Than Any Other Religion Outside Christianity

The Quran mentions Jesus (Isa) by name 25 times — more than the Bible mentions Muhammad. An entire chapter is named after his mother: Surah Maryam (Mary). Muslims believe in the virgin birth, his miracles, and that he was the Messiah sent to the Children of Israel. We say 'peace be upon him' every time we mention his name.

The Same God — Not a Different One

Muslims worship the God of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus — the One Creator of the universe. The Arabic word 'Allah' is used by Arab Christians today and means 'The God.' Islam restores pure monotheism: one God, without partners, sons, or equals. Jesus himself prayed to God and said: 'Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.' (Mark 10:18)

What Islam Says About 'Son of God'

Islam teaches that calling Jesus the literal son of God contradicts what Jesus himself taught. God is not a human who has children — He is transcendent and unique. The Quran says Jesus was a word from God and a spirit from Him, created by God's command 'Be' — like Adam. Muslims deeply respect Jesus but do not worship him, because worship belongs to God alone.

Jesus in the Quran — Read It Yourself

We invite you to read Surah Maryam (19), Surah Al-Imran (3:42-55), and Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:72-75) with an open heart. You will find Mary honored as the best of women, Jesus speaking from the cradle, and clear statements about monotheism. This is not written to attack Christianity — it is the same message of submission to One God that every prophet brought.

Evidence from the Quran

Virgin Birth

She said: 'How can I have a boy when no man has touched me?' He said: 'So it will be. Your Lord says: It is easy for Me.'

Quran 19:20-21

Speaking in the Cradle

He said: 'I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.'

Quran 19:30

Not God, But His Servant

The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger. Say: 'Who could prevent Allah if He intended to destroy the Messiah?'

Quran 5:17

Mary Honored

And [mention] when the angels said: 'O Mary, indeed Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.'

Quran 3:42

Common Questions

Do Muslims believe in Jesus?+

Yes — believing in Jesus as a prophet is required in Islam. Denying him is disbelief.

Why don't Muslims celebrate Christmas as worship?+

We honor Jesus's birth as a miracle, but we worship God alone — not the prophet. This is the same distinction Jesus made between himself and God.

Will Jesus return?+

Yes. Muslims believe Jesus will return before the Day of Judgment, establish justice, and confirm Islam — the final message of submission to God.
