What is Islam?

Islam is the monotheistic religion revealed by Allah to Prophet Muhammad. It means submission to the will of God.

The Meaning of Islam

Islam comes from the Arabic root 's-l-m' meaning peace and submission. A Muslim is one who submits to Allah — the One God — and follows the guidance sent through Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Core Beliefs

Muslims believe in: One God (Allah), the Angels, the Revealed Books (Quran, Torah, Gospel), the Prophets, the Day of Judgment, and Divine Decree. These six pillars of faith define Islamic belief.

The Five Pillars

1. Shahada (Declaration of faith) 2. Salah (Five daily prayers) 3. Zakat (Charity) 4. Sawm (Fasting in Ramadan) 5. Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah once in a lifetime if able).
